Job Description — Concrete Paving Crew (CRCP):


Location: Houston, TX | Project Type: Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (TxDOT & municipal roadways)

Start Date: 2 weeks | Schedule: 40-50 hrs/week (overtime as needed)


1. Crew Composition & Core Duties

Position Head-count Key Responsibilities*

Foreman (1)

• Plan daily production, read TxDOT CRCP drawings, set benchmarks and grades

• Coordinate subcontractors, trucks, and concrete plant tickets

• Enforce OSHA & TxDOT safety, quality, and environmental specs


Laborers (2)

• Hand-carry steel, vibrate concrete, place curing compound

• Tie rebar mats & cage, install dowel baskets

• General site cleanup & traffic-control support


Carpenters (3-4)

• Set/strip steel or heavy-gauge timber forms to line & grade

• Build bulkheads, header boards, and chamfers

• Drill & grout anchor/dowel holes; install keyways


Concrete Finishers (5-6)

• Direct chute or conveyor placement; operate screeds & slip-form paver

• Bull-float, straight-edge, edge, groove, and broom/texture CRCP

• Operate walk-behind/ride-on trowels, ensure FF/FL & surface tolerance


*All crew members must be able to work in high heat/humidity, lift 50 lbs+, and pass a DOT drug screen.


2. Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience:
  • Foreman – 7 yrs paving / 3 yrs supervisory
  • Carpenters & Finishers – 3-5 yrs highway or airfield paving
  • Laborers – 1-2 yrs heavy-civil concrete work
  • Certifications: OSHA 10 (Preferred), TxDOT Concrete Field Tester, ACI Concrete Flatwork Finisher/Technician (finishers).
  • Skills: Able to read grade stakes & total-station layout, basic math for elevations, familiarity with dowel-bar retrofit, slip-form pave train, and curing/texture machines.
  • Soft Skills: Safety-first mindset, reliability for early a.m. pours, teamwork under schedule pressure, bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.


3. Typical Hourly Pay in Houston (2025):


Foreman: 30-40 per hour

Carpenters and Finishers: 27-35 per hour

Laborers: 22-25 per hour


*Ranges reflect surveyed 2025 market data for Houston-area commercial/heavy-civil contractors and may vary with shift differentials, per-diem, and Davis-Bacon prevailing-wage projects.
